About me

Meet Indra Fortney.

I grew up in the small coastal town of Mendocino, the off shoot of creative parents; my father is a builder and artist, and my mother is a woman with a zeal for travel.
My upbringing included many adventuresome travels throughout Europe; including a visit to Greece that turned into a six month stay when my mom met and fell in love with an art gallery owner, and a stint at an art school in Switzerland where I learned of all things how to sing Italian opera (or at least one song ).
After studying Interior Design I opened a boutique design store in Napa, CA (“La Vie Belle Interiors”) which afforded me the luxury of traveling for the stores inventory. Before the grand opening mom and I hit the road. We traveled to India and Nepal to hunt for silks, rugs and other treasures.  After the store opened I continued to travel for goods; bringing back antique finds from England, France, Italy and Greece. It was all in the name of business, but more than anything it was all in the name of fun.
Years ago, my mother decided to make Greece her home and she now lives on the island of Corfu. Soon after she settled on the island I came to visit and fell in love with a centuries old Venetian style house; resplendent with thick stone castle – like walls, peeling wood shutters and a tile roof. A year after visiting my husband and I bought the house. Since then I have re-married and moved with my Finnish husband to Finland, where I lived for three years. In Finland I started a new business focused on photography and home styling. Three years of cold, dark winters was the limit for my California blood. We have returned to the place I have lived the longest in my life, Napa Valley. But Europe and our enchantingly decrepit villa on the island of Corfu is my second home.
